Washington lawmakers consider same-sex bills

The Washington state Senate is poised to pass a measure boosting benefits to unemployed workers.

OLYMPIA, Wash. —

The Washington state Senate is poised to pass a measure boosting benefits to unemployed workers.

The measure has already passed the House, so the Senate action Thursday would send it to the governor.

A bill to speed up school construction passed the Senate Wednesday and was sent to the governor. It authorizes $133 million in general obligation bonds.

Lawmakers are still debating a bill that would allow agencies to deny public records requests made by prisoners. Some prisoners have used the law to intimidate or harass those responsible for putting them behind bars.

A hearing is scheduled Monday on a bill that would create projects to demonstrate how logging debris and other forest wood waste could be converted to energy.
