Obama declares disaster in flooded Washington counties

President Barack Obama today declared eight flooded Western Washington counties a federal disaster area, opening the door to government money to help flood victims.

President Obama today declared eight flooded Western Washington counties a federal disaster area, opening the door to government money to help flood victims.

People affected by the January floods could be eligible for grants or low-interest loans to find housing and repair or replaced damaged property.

The declaration covers flooded parts of King, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, Pierce, Snohomish, Thurston and Wahkiakum counties. People can start applying tomorrow at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling (800) 621-3362.
