Shouts for help prompt search in Lake Washington

Kirkland police and marine units from the Seattle and Mercer Island police departments and the King County Sheriff's Office are searching the waters off Kirkland's downtown waterfront tonight after at least two callers alerted 911 that they heard someone yelling for help off Marina Park.

Kirkland police and marine units from the Seattle and Mercer Island police departments and the King County Sheriff's Office are searching the waters off Kirkland's downtown waterfront tonight after at least two callers alerted 911 that they heard someone yelling for help off Marina Park.

The calls came in about 8:10 p.m., said Kirkland police spokesman Lt. Nick Seibert. He said the calls were logged as a possible drowning.

Searchers were focusing attention on an area of Lake Washington about 100 yards offshore from the park, at 25 Lake Shore Plaza.

A Coast Guard helicopter also was participating in the search, scouring the water from overhead.
