Dr. says Tri-Cities football player in 'roid rage'

A state psychiatrist says a Tri-Cities football player was in a so-called "roid-rage" when he broke through airport security and later bit a fingertip off a jail guard.

TRI-CITIES, Wash. —

A state psychiatrist says a Tri-Cities football player was in a so-called "roid-rage" when he broke through airport security and later bit a fingertip off a jail guard.

The doctor, William H. Grant, reported to Franklin County Superior Court that Michael Rayfield Hodges had used steroids for a month before the November attacks to bulk up.

After taking anti-psychotic medication at Eastern State Hospital, Hodges is ready for trial. The Tri-City Herald reports he's pleading innocent by reason of insanity.

He faces a Feb. 25 assault trial for the jail fight and a March 11 assault trial for a disruption in the boarding area at the Tri-Cities Airport.

The 26-year-old was a lineman for the Tri-Cities Fever in the arenafootball2 league.
