King County's Department of Development and Environmental Services is offering free inspections of damaged buildings in unincorporated county areas to help speed the repair process for residents.

Inspectors will evaluate the integrity of the structure and assess whether a permit is required to proceed with repairs. For minor repairs, the department can issue permits over the counter at its Renton office. For major damage, the permit review can be expedited. Inspections will be conducted within one business day of a request.

The typical $320 damage assessment fee will be waived. To request a damage inspection, call 206-296-6630 between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The department is closed Fridays.
