Pierce County prosecutors won't go before 1 judge

TACOMA — Pierce County Prosecutor Gerald Horne says his staff won't try cases before newly sworn in Superior Court Judge Michael Hecht.

TACOMA — Pierce County Prosecutor Gerald Horne says his staff won't try cases before newly sworn in Superior Court Judge Michael Hecht.

Horne told the Tacoma News Tribune he doesn't want to risk any criminal cases.

Hecht has been accused of patronizing a prostitute and threatening to kill him. The investigation has been turned over to the state attorney general's office for review.

Hecht denies wrongdoing. He has not been charged. He was elected in August and sworn in Monday.

The court presiding judge, Bryan Chushcoff, says no decision has been made on Hecht's status. He has three weeks of judicial training ahead before he begins his duties.
