A man who fatally shot one man and wounded another during a 2005 confrontation was sentenced Friday to about 72 years in prison.
Joseph McClain, 28, was charged with first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder; he was found guilty last month.
According to court papers, McClain showed up at a Federal Way apartment in the 33000 block of 17th Lane South on Feb. 21, 2005, demanding to know where a woman named "Liz" was. A man living at the home told police that the woman had been at the home earlier on that night, apparently seeking refuge from McClain, but had left before McClain showed up, court papers said.
When the man, whom police identified as John Howie, didn't tell McClain the woman's location, McClain pulled out a gun. Howie locked himself in the bathroom, charging papers said.
When Howie came out he found his friend Timothy Swenson dead and another friend, Charles David, wounded by gunfire, court papers said.
Police said that McClain had previously sold crack cocaine to two of the men at the apartment for $50.
Prosecutors described McClain as a drug user and dealer with a prior conviction for second-degree arson.
