Part of US 12 open to local traffic

Washington state highway crews have cleared multiple mudslides on U.S. 12 and reopened the portion of the highway between Packwood in Lewis County and Naches in Yakima County to local traffic.

OLYMPIA, Wash. —

Washington state highway crews have cleared multiple mudslides on U.S. 12 and reopened the portion of the highway between Packwood in Lewis County and Naches in Yakima County to local traffic.

Transportation Department spokeswoman Abbi Russell said late Thursday that the entire U.S. 12 stretch across White Pass is not yet a viable east-west route for commercial vehicles because of flooding at Randle and a large washout near Glenoma, both in Lewis County.
