Washington attorney general requests new laws

Attorney General Rob McKenna is asking the Legislature to require training for local governments to help them comply with the Open Public Meetings Act.

OLYMPIA, Wash. —

Attorney General Rob McKenna is asking the Legislature to require training for local governments to help them comply with the Open Public Meetings Act.

He also wants to crack down on prison inmates who use the open records law to harass officials.

Also on his legislative wish list announced Wednesday is a ban on Internet sales of tobacco to individuals and tougher sentencing for repeated domestic violence.

The Olympian reports McKenna wants to outlaw the viewing of child pornography. The new law would exempt police who view the material as evidence.

The Legislature convenes Monday in Olympia for a 105-day session.
