SALEM, Ore. — Salem Police say that a dog owner told his two pit bulls to attack an officer, who shot and killed one of the animals.

SALEM, Ore. — Salem Police say that a dog owner told his two pit bulls to attack an officer, who shot and killed one of the animals.

The police said the other dog ran away but was captured, as was the man.

Officers accused 21-year-old Francisco Emiliano Martinez of multiple counts, including attempted assault of an officer and interfering with police.

Police say he was arrested at an apartment complex where residents reported he was trying to get his dogs to attack residents.

Officers say that when two officers arrived, he fled, commanding the dogs to attack. When the dogs lunged at an officer repeatedly, he fired, killing one and scaring off another.
