A snowmobile rider was killed in an avalanche in Okanogan County

OKANOGAN — A snowmobile rider was killed in an avalanche in Okanogan County.

Sheriff Frank Rogers says 24-year-old Joshua S. Peters of Colville was buried in snow about 4 p.m. Sunday in the Brown Bear Basin area near Harts Pass.

He was with three other experienced riders who had avalanche beacons and probes with them. They dug Peters out in about 15 minutes, but he had stopped breathing and could not be revived.
