Seattle police officers assaulted after suspect tried to flee car accident

Seattle police officers assaulted.

Seattle police arrested a 35-year-old Seattle man who they say attempted to flee the scene of a car accident and assaulted two officers.

Early this morning, the man was booked into the King County Jail on two counts of investigation of assault on an officer, a felony, said police, who have also recommended to prosecutors that he be charged with DUI and hit-and-run.

The incident began at about 2 a.m., police said, when the man was driving eastbound on East Mercer Street. He allegedly ran a stop sign at Summit Avenue East and sideswiped a taxi cab. No one was injured, police said, and the suspect kept driving.

His car got stuck in the snow less than a block away. When officers attempted to conduct field sobriety tests, he became hostile and was arrested.

As he was being put into the patrol car, the suspect allegedly kicked one officer in the throat and another officer in the face in an attempt to escape custody, police said. The officers were treated at the scene and released. The suspect's car was impounded and his passenger was released, police said.
