Seattle in Olympics snow shadow

Snow is falling across many parts of Western Washington but the city of Seattle itself is mostly in the clear.

SEATTLE —

Snow is falling across many parts of Western Washington but the city of Seattle itself is mostly in the clear.

National Weather Service meteorologist Ted Buehner (BEE'-ner) told KIRO Radio the city is in the snow shadow of the Olympics.

He says that shadow is likely to shift during the day Wednesday, and the city could have snow by Thursday morning.

Heavy snow is falling in the Cascades. Snoqualmie and Stevens passes are getting about a foot of new snow.

Buehner says more frigid air from Canada will keep temperatures freezing into the weekend. He says there's a chance of a white Christmas in Seattle, something that happens about 7 percent of the time historically.
