Many blast Seattle city building gun ban plan

More than 70 speakers turned out to comment on Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels' plan to ban guns from city buildings and parks - and the majority opposed the idea.

SEATTLE —

More than 70 speakers turned out to comment on Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels' plan to ban guns from city buildings and parks - and the majority opposed the idea.

Among those who supported the proposal at Monday night's hearing was Cheryl Stumbo, shot and seriously wounded two years ago when a gunman shot workers at the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle. She says she would definitely feel safer knowing guns were prohibited from city property.

Some called the proposed administrative rule a common sense regulation to keep Seattle safer. But others say criminals don't follow the rules.

Nickels proposed the ban after a shooting last May at the Northwest Folklife Festival injured several people.
