Officer not at fault in Seattle bridge suicide

A Seattle police investigation has concluded that the death of a man who fell from the Aurora Bridge was a suicide.

SEATTLE —

A Seattle police investigation has concluded that the death of a man who fell from the Aurora Bridge was a suicide.

The man dropped away Nov. 3 as an officer made a last-second attempt to handcuff him to a safety line.

Investigators reviewed the action of the officer and determined it was not an "in-custody" death.

A spokesman for the King County prosecutor's office, Dan Donohoe, says there will be no inquest. The King County medical examiner's office has already ruled the death a suicide.

The 48-year-old man had been clinging to a rail for hours when he slipped away.
