Fights erupt at teen event; one man shot
A man was shot and wounded in Southeast Seattle late Saturday.
Seattle police said they believe the shooting is related to a disturbance where a gun was pulled about the same time a few blocks away, near the NewHolly Library and NewHolly Gathering Hall.
The shooting victim's wounds were not life-threatening, police said.
A Seattle police spokesman said private security guards were working an event for more than 150 teens in the 7000 block of 32nd Avenue South when a gun was displayed. The guards called police afterward, around 11:30 p.m. Saturday. Police said numerous fights had broken out when they arrived, and many in attendance were fleeing the building.
Police said they were told the gunman may have left in a white car. A short time later they were called to Harborview Medical Center, where a shooting victim told police he had been shot in the 4600 block of South Othello Street by a man in a white car. Police found shell casings at the shooting site and observed damage to the home and the victim's car.
