Precor to build new plant in North Carolina

A fitness equipment company plans to build a manufacturing facility in North Carolina, investing more than $26 million and adding 142 over the next three years.

RALEIGH, N.C. —

A fitness equipment company plans to build a manufacturing facility in North Carolina, investing more than $26 million and adding 142 over the next three years.

Woodinville, Wash.-based Precor Inc. said Wednesday it would build the facility in Greensboro to make equipment for health clubs, hotels and universities. The company chose Greensboro after a national search.

Gov. Mike Easley said in a statement the state's work force would allow the internationally recognized company "to innovate and grow."

Precor makes cardiovascular and strength-training equipment. It has offices in Germany, the United Kingdom and other international locations.

The project is partially funded by a $140,000 grant from One North Carolina Fund, which helps attract new businesses to the state.
