State suspends Seattle doctor's license in sex case

The state Department of Health has suspended the medical license of a Seattle doctor accused of fondling and having sex with a patient.

The state Department of Health has suspended the medical license of a Seattle doctor accused of fondling and having sex with a patient.

The summary suspension means Dr. Ceferino A. Fernandez, who, according to records, is a family practitioner at a Rainier Avenue South family medical clinic, cannot practice or work as a physician in Washington state pending a hearing.

According to legal documents filed in the case, a patient went to see Fernandez in October, complaining of abdominal pain. At the appointment, Fernandez allegedly had the patient remove her shirt for an examination, then fondled her and had sexual intercourse with her.

Fernandez admitted having sex with the patient at his clinic despite her protests, the documents said.
