Ivy League swindler apologizes to ex for ID fraud

An Ivy League graduate has apologized to his ex-girlfriend for joining her in a six-figure identity-theft scheme.

PHILADELPHIA —

An Ivy League graduate has apologized to his ex-girlfriend for joining her in a six-figure identity-theft scheme.

Edward Anderton, of Everett, Wash., spoke in a federal courtroom Friday in Philadelphia. Of his co-defendant, Jocelyn Kirsch, Anderton says he was "a large part of her downfall."

Kirsch is serving a five-year prison term on ID theft, money laundering and other felonies. The 25-year-old Anderton, a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, is being sentenced and faces a similar prison term.

The once-glamorous pair admit they stole the identities of friends and neighbors to obtain luxury goods and take lavish trips. Travel photos of the couple were released by police and have been widely circulated online.
