Alexander to remain state Supreme Court chief justice

OLYMPIA - Chief Justice Gerry Alexander will continue serving as the state's top judge.

OLYMPIA — Chief Justice Gerry Alexander will continue serving as the state's top judge.

Washington's Supreme Court says justices have unanimously re-elected Alexander as chief justice, in an internal vote. Alexander the longest-serving chief justice in Washington state history.

As chief justice, Alexander presides over the court's public hearings and serves as the court's chief spokesman.

He also is the administrative head of Washington's trial and appellate court system, and heads the state judiciary's policy-setting board.

Alexander is the court's 52nd chief justice. He will reach the court's mandatory retirement age of 75 in 2011.
