Auburn horse rescuer pleads guilty

A woman who operated a horse rescue center in Auburn has pleaded guilty to four counts of animal cruelty.

KENT, Wash. —

A woman who operated a horse rescue center in Auburn has pleaded guilty to four counts of animal cruelty.

Dean Marie Solomon says she tried to save more horses than she could care for.

In return for Thursday's plea, prosecutors are recommending community service when she is sentenced Dec. 5 in King County Superior Court in Kent.

In court documents Solomon says she bought horses at auction and brought them to her Pacific Equestrian Center to save them from being sent to slaughter.

A rescue operation on the center in February found horses suffering from malnutrition, lice and a fungal inflammation on their legs caused by constantly standing in mud and manure.
