A look at Lasik vision correction procedures:

-Lasik is short for Laser-Assisted-In-Situ Keratomileusis in which a laser is used to reshape the cornea.

-Two of the largest national companies doing Lasik vision correction are LCA-Vision Inc., of Cincinnati, and TLC Vision Corp. of St. Louis.

-LCA-Vision's third-quarter earnings report said procedures in the past three months were less than half the number during the same period a year ago - 21,484 compared with 44,547.

-TLC Vision reports its earnings Thursday but has said the number of procedures performed at its vision centers was down, but "significantly less" than the industry's mid-40 percent range.
