Hit-run jolt knocks part of guardrail off Alaskan Way Viaduct
A hit-and-run driver on Monday knocked a piece of guardrail from the Alaskan Way Viaduct's Seneca Street offramp onto the ground below. No one was hurt.
A hit-and-run driver on Monday knocked a 25- to 30-foot-long piece of guardrail from the Alaskan Way Viaduct's Seneca Street offramp onto the ground below near Western Avenue.
No one was hurt in the 11 a.m. mishap, according to state Department of Transportation (DOT) spokeswoman Emily Fishkin.
The offramp was closed for several hours for repairs.
The damage was caused strictly by the hit-and-run driver, Fishkin said, and was not related to any ongoing viaduct-safety issues.
The viaduct had been closed for most of the weekend for an inspection between South Spokane Street at the south end through the Battery Street Tunnel at the north end.
Workers over the weekend also repaired damaged concrete roadway panels near South Spokane Street, expansion joints and bridge rails.
