Search dog finds climber missing 5 days on Mt. Adams
A climber missing for five days on Southern Washington's Mount Adams has been airlifted off the mountain and taken to a Portland-area hospital.
YAKIMA — A climber missing for five days on Southern Washington's Mount Adams has been airlifted off the mountain and taken to a Portland-area hospital.
A dog from a search-and-rescue team found Derek Mamoyac of Philomath, Ore., on the west side of the mountain, just below the 6,000-foot level, at about 2 p.m. Friday.
Yakima County Search and Rescue volunteer Mark Tharp said the man was being taken for treatment for a lower-leg injury and dehydration.
Tharp says, "Aside from that, he's in pretty good shape."
The 27-year-old Mamoyac started up the mountain Sunday for a one-day climb. Family members reported him missing Monday when he failed to show up for work.
Yakima County sheriff's Deputy Alan Klise says the rescue team found Mamoyac in a different area of the mountain from where he ascended.
