Wash. Republicans checking elections records

The Washington state Republican Party is seeking records from election officials across the state, to track communications with Democrats and activist groups.

MONTESANO, Wash. —

The Washington state Republican Party is seeking records from election officials across the state, to track communications with Democrats and activist groups.

State party Chairman Luke Esser tells The Daily World newspaper of Aberdeen that the GOP just wants to know "if there's any funny business going on." Esser didn't have specifics about what he's looking for.

One of the groups Republicans are asking about is the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, a poverty activist group.

Last year, King County prosecutors charged seven ACORN workers with submitting falsified voter registrations. Investigators said no votes were cast from those registrations. At the time, ACORN said it's never knowingly submitted a fraudulent application.
