Teen arrested in threat case that closed school

A 15-year-old University High School student has been arrested in a telephone death threat case that prompted school officials to cancel classes Monday at the Spokane Valley school.

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. —

A 15-year-old University High School student has been arrested in a telephone death threat case that prompted school officials to cancel classes Monday at the Spokane Valley school.

School officials say classes will resume Tuesday.

Central Valley School District spokeswoman Melanie Rose says the boy told arresting officers on Monday that the message was intended as a prank. She adds the teen apparently left a false name to get another student in trouble.

Spokane County sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Dave Reagan says a voice mail message left Saturday on a female student's phone threatened to kill the girl and her brother.

The school has about 1,800 students and faculty.
