Students step up for Olympia cleanup
The Olympia Downtown Association canceled its cleanup last weekend because of a lack of volunteers, but college students stepped up for the job.
The Olympia Downtown Association canceled its cleanup last weekend because of a lack of volunteers, but college students stepped up for the job.
A coordinator, Donelle Deuel, says some Fort Lewis soldiers who usually volunteer weren't available because they are about to be deployed to Iraq.
The president of the downtown association, Daniel Furrer, told The Olympian he was contacted out of the blue by Evergreen State College students who felt bad the cleanup had been canceled.
About a dozen freshmen in the school's Community Connections program donned plastic gloves and carried plastic bags Wednesday, scooping up litter.
