Judge bars RealNetworks' DVD-copying software
A federal judge has kept in place a temporary prohibition on RealNetworks Inc.'s distribution of software that lets consumers copy and store DVD movies on their personal computers and portable hard drives.
A federal judge has kept in place a temporary prohibition on RealNetworks Inc.'s distribution of software that lets consumers copy and store DVD movies on their personal computers and portable hard drives.
RealNetworks and Hollywood's six major movie studios filed dueling lawsuits last week over RealNetworks' launch of its RealDVD product, which costs $29.99.
RealNetworks bowed to a judge's request on Friday to stop distribution, and on Tuesday the judge formally barred sales of the software until the lawsuits are resolved.
The movie studios contend that the software allows pirating. RealNetwork argues it is legal.
