Trufant has cracked bone in hand
Pro Bowl cornerback Marcus Trufant has a cracked bone in his left hand, but it won't keep him from playing against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
Pro Bowl cornerback Marcus Trufant has a cracked bone in his left hand, but it won't keep him from playing against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
Trufant suffered the injury trying to defense a pass during practice on Thursday before colliding with another player.
"It's very, very sore," coach Mike Holmgren said. "He has a cast on and we're now trying to evaluate what to put on his hand to protect it. Allow him some comfort, but also allow him to play."
Friday, Trufant practiced with a cast protecting his injured hand.
"Just a freak accident, no really big collision or nothing like that," Trufant said. "Just ran into a guy, kind of ran into him the wrong way and my fingers just got jammed up."
The injury is just another in a series of ailments that has continued to plague the Seahawks. The team had to place starting wide receiver Nate Burleson and starting right guard Rob Sims on injured reserve earlier this week with a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a torn pectoral muscle, respectively.
Middle linebacker Lofa Tatupu suffered a knee injury during a preseason game in San Diego and also injured his right thumb against Buffalo last week. He, too, will play this Sunday.
Trufant also suffered a hand injury during his junior season at Washington State University that forced his to miss five games. That injury was to his right hand.
He returned to play against UCLA while wearing a cast and managed to intercept a pass and force a fumble.
"I did it before so I'm going to go out and pretend it's not there," Trufant said.

STARTERS NAMED: Courtney Taylor and Logan Payne will start at wide receiver for the Seahawks on Sunday. The rest of the receiving corp is still left to be decided.

The team brought in Billy McMullen and Samie Parker earlier this week. Backup quarterback Seneca Wallace has worked with the receivers this week and practice squad member Michael Bumpus could also be signed to the active roster.
Deion Branch returned to limited participation in practice and is listed as doubtful, but Holmgren said earlier this week that Branch would not play.
"Their work's cut out for them," Holmgren said. "They're the ones left standing, so they've got to play."
Part of the discussion will center around who will be catching punts as well. Burleson has been the returner the last two seasons and fielded punts last week before getting injured. Wallace fielded punts for the remainder of the game against Buffalo.
---
Quick Hits: RB Maurice Morris and WR Bobby Engram are both listed as out for this week. ... WR Deion Branch and T Sean Locklear are doubtful. ... DE Baraka Atkins, LB Lofa Tatupu and CB Marcus Trufant all fully participated in practice today and are listed as probable.
