Burlington abduction was false report

Skagit County prosecutors are deciding whether to charge a man who falsely reported that his daughter had been abducted.

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. —

Skagit County prosecutors are deciding whether to charge a man who falsely reported that his daughter had been abducted.

The sheriff's office says investigators finally sorted out what happened Sept. 13 at a migrant labor camp near Burlington.

Investigators say the 54-year-old man had tried to arrange his daughter's marriage to a Mount Vernon man. She declined and left the camp with her 2-year-old son and another man. The father reported she had been kidnapped by an armed man and forced to leave in his van.

The woman and her son contacted sheriff's deputies Friday and said they are fine. Deputies canceled the arrest warrant for the man with the van.
