Coughing baby alerts Seattle household to fire

A coughing baby alerted the residents of a West Seattle house to a fire and everybody got out OK.

SEATTLE —

A coughing baby alerted the residents of a West Seattle house to a fire and everybody got out OK.

The fire department says medics evaluated the baby for smoke inhalation and the baby did require hospitalization.

The Red Cross is helping the family of nine displaced by the Tuesday morning fire.

Investigators determined the fire was started by a candle.

Damage to the house is estimated at $150,000.
