Man convicted of murder at 12 linked to car theft

One of the youngest people convicted of murder in Washington state is now implicated in a car theft case in Tacoma.

TACOMA, Wash. —

One of the youngest people convicted of murder in Washington state is now implicated in a car theft case in Tacoma.

The investigation concerns the theft of six vehicles worth more than $152,000 from locked storage areas at the Port of Tacoma.

According to U.S. District Court filings, 20-year-old Jamar Jay Spencer's fingerprints were found on plastic sheets that were used to protect some of the cars.

Investigators write that Spencer admits he was involved but claims he was a "peon."

Spencer and seven other young people were convicted in the beating death of a 30-year-old musician, Erik Toews (tayvs), on Aug. 19, 2000. He was 12 at the time. Police say the motive was boredom.

Spencer is now serving a prison sentence at Monroe for gun possession.
