Edwin O. Guthman, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who was on the infamous "enemies list" prepared by aides of President Richard Nixon, has died. He was 89.
Family spokesman Bryce Nelson says Guthman, who suffered from a rare blood disease, died Sunday at his Pacific Palisades home.
Born Aug. 11, 1919, in Seattle, Guthman won a Pulitzer Prize in 1950 for stories that cleared a University of Washington professor of allegations that he was a Communist supporter.
He went on to serve as press secretary for Robert F. Kennedy in the 1960s before working as a national editor at the Los Angeles Times.
In 1971, Guthman was on a 20-name list of political opponents singled out for harassment in a memo sent from Nixon aide Charles Colson to aide John Dean.
