SPU: Beacon Hill's tap water OK to drink

A drinking water advisory for parts of Beacon Hill has been lifted.

A drinking water advisory for parts of Beacon Hill has been lifted.

About 500 households lost their water Wednesday after a pipe broke, and Seattle Public Utilities advised that residents boil water after it was restored. SPU also handed out 975 gallons of bottled water.

The request to boil the water was lifted after tests confirmed water from the tap is safe to drink.

"Although pressure was lost for about five hours Wednesday morning, there was no indication of contamination, and we conducted the tests simply as an added precaution to verify the water is safe to drink," said Dave Hilmoe, drinking water director for SPU.

SPU said some residents might see discolored water and they should open their taps and run water until it is clear.

The outage affected about 30 blocks on the southwest side of Beacon Hill.
