Car-free Sunday to affect segment of 14th Avenue East
The first of Seattle's "Car-free Sundays" will block off 14th Avenue East between Volunteer Park and East Republican Street on Capitol Hill today.
The first of Seattle's "Car-free Sundays" will block off 14th Avenue East between Volunteer Park and East Republican Street on Capitol Hill. Only pedestrians and bicyclists will be allowed on the road between noon and 6 p.m. today.
The closure also affects the Western Loop Road through the park, where the Seattle Peace Concert is planned this afternoon.
Car-free Sundays are part of Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels' campaign to "Give Your Car the Summer Off."
Motorists will not be able to use 14th East from East Prospect to East Republican streets and East Republican to 15th Avenue East. However, exceptions will be made for emergency vehicles, people with disabilities and local access. No parking will be allowed along the route from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Motorized traffic within Volunteer Park will be limited from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Seattle Asian Art Museum visitors should enter the park at the 15th Avenue East and East Galer Street entrance. Detour signs will be posted.
