A missing swimmer is the object of a search tonight near Golden Gardens Park in Seattle.
Fire boats, police, the Coast Guard and the King County helicopter spent hours looking for the man who, with a companion, had been trying to swim to a buoy about 200 yards from shore.
The Seattle Fire Department got a swimmer-in-distress call at about 8:45 p.m., according to department spokeswoman Dana Vander Hoewen.
A 30-year-old man had been spotted by a paddleboarder who allowed the man to hang onto his board until he could be rescued by the Harbor Patrol, Vander Hoewen said. That man was subsequently taken to Harborview Medical Center suffering from hypothermia.
The Fire Department halted its search for the second man by 10:40 p.m., but police and the helicopter are still on the scene searching both the water and the shoreline.
