Teen arrested in fatal Federal Way WA shooting

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested and charged as an adult in a fatal shooting outside a school in Federal Way.

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. —

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested and charged as an adult in a fatal shooting outside a school in Federal Way.

Luis Cosgaya-Alvarez is scheduled to be arraigned Aug. 28 in King County Superior Court on a second-degree murder charge.

A Federal Way police detective wrote in a probable cause statement that witnesses last Thursday saw Cosgaya-Alvarez fire a single shot into the head of 26-year-old Omero Mendez, who was at the Lakota Middle School to pick up his girlfriend's son from football practice.

According to the document, Mendez confronted Cosgaya-Alvarez and two friends when they used a Lincoln Navigator to block Mendez's car in the school parking lot.
