Northwest supermarket chain Fred Meyer is recalling some of its ground beef products due to potential E. coli bacteria contamination.
The affected meat is "family pack" ground beef, 20 percent fat, with a sell-by date of July 6-Aug. 11, 2008. Customers should throw out any affected beef in their refrigerators or freezers or return it to Fred Meyer stores for a full refund, spokeswoman Melinda Merrill said.
The chain is not aware of any illnesses associated with the affected beef at this time, Merrill said. It issued the recall due to the chance it may have been processed at or come into contact with meat from Nebraska Beef Ltd., an Omaha meat plant that has been the source of tainted beef that has sickened more than 80 people around the country.
