City Council's McIver in intensive care

After recent colon surgery, Seattle City Councilmember Richard McIver has been readmitted to the hospital.

Seattle Times staff reporter

Seattle City Councilmember Richard McIver had colon surgery two weeks ago and returned to the hospital Monday.

Paul Elliott, his chief of staff, said McIver, 67, had part of his colon removed July 21 after "precancerous cells" were discovered.

Elliott said, "he's had a bit of a setback," and needed to go back to the hospital. McIver is now in an intensive-care unit.

"We expect he'll be released from the hospital in a day or two and expect him to be back in the office in very short order," Elliott said.

McIver has been absent from work since the surgery but stopped in at his City Hall office briefly on Friday.
