Seattle hotel sewage leak fixed
A broken pipeline that sent raw sewage from a luxury Seattle waterfront hotel into Elliott Bay has been fixed.
A broken pipeline that sent raw sewage from a luxury Seattle waterfront hotel into Elliott Bay has been fixed.
Edgewater Hotel managing director Rudy Sharp says a repair on the 8-inch pipeline beneath Pier 67 was completed late Monday night.
The 223-room hotel had been inadvertently pumping raw sewage into the bay since Friday. Sharp says it's unclear how many gallons might have spilled after the line's mounting brackets broke and the pipe pulled away from the pier.
Seattle Public Utilities spokesman Andy Ryan says the biggest environmental threat was from detergent in the hotel laundry, rather than sewage. Sharp says the Edgewater closed its laundry early Monday after city officials asked it to, and the laundry typically isn't open over the weekend.
