Northgate Mall in Seattle was evacuated and closed this afternoon because of a power outage that disrupted service to about 3,850 customers.

City Light officials said power was expected to be restored around 8 p.m.

The outage occurred when City Light crews working on a high-voltage transmission line dropped wires onto distribution lines below.

The outage affected the area between Northeast 120th Street and North 100th Street, and between 11th Avenue Northeast and Fremont Avenue North.

Another outage in the University District/Wallingford area around 2 p.m. did not affect any customers, officials said. The cause of that outage is unknown.

The Tacoma Place mall also was evacuated earlier this morning due to a gas leak. It reopened at 11:30 a.m.
