Modified guilty plea in punching death in Monroe

A man has entered a modified guilty plea to second-degree manslaughter in the death of a motel manager in Monroe.

MONROE — A man has entered a modified guilty plea to second-degree manslaughter in the death of a motel manager in Monroe.

A punch thrown by 30-year-old Jesse Bullington felled 46-year-old Kenneth Wolfe on Feb. 26 outside the Brookside Motel, while Wolfe was the manager. Investigators found that an argument between the two had led to Bullington getting an eviction notice.

Bullington was initially charged with first-degree manslaughter but accepted a plea agreement for the lesser offense Wednesday.

Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Tobin Darrow says he'll request a nearly four-year prison term when Bullington is sentenced on Aug. 7. Bullington's record includes five felony convictions in Nebraska, one of them for second-degree assault.
