A Washington state teen injured by a boat propeller on a family outing on Lake Coeur d'Alene has died.
A Washington state teen injured by a boat propeller on a family outing on Lake Coeur d'Alene has died.
The Kootenai County sheriff's office says the 13-year-old had been in the water Tuesday near a 21-foot boat operated by his grandfather when the boy decided he wanted to switch life jackets. Sgt. Kevin Smart says the boat occupants believed it was in neutral when the boy approached the boat and was struck by the propeller.
The boy was airlifted to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, Wash., where he was pronounced dead.
Sheriff's officers identified the grandfather as 70-year-old Marvin Markham of Spokane Valley, Wash. Also aboard were 39-year-old Leisha Konrad of Spokane and five juveniles. The dead boy was not immediately identified.
The investigation continues.
