The body of a 10-year-old boy was found floating in the Duwamish River this morning, after being reported missing Wednesday night.
Danny Tang, a student at Tukwila Elementary School, was last seen around 7 p.m. playing in the water at the river's edge, near the intersection of 42nd Avenue South and Interurban Avenue South, police said.
The King County Medical Examiner will rule on the cause of death.
Danny's family spent nearly four hours searching for the boy before they reported him missing to police around 11 p.m., said Tukwila police spokesman Mike Murphy.
"His parents figured he'd gone to one of this friends' houses," Murphy said. "I don't think they knew he was at the river. They started searching the locations where he was last seen, and when they exhausted all those resources, they called 911," he said.
Danny was playing with two other boys Wednesday evening at the river, but when his friends left to go home, Danny stayed, Murphy said.
It's unclear why, he added.
Police and fire units searched for him until 3:20 a.m., and found Danny's shoes and socks floating in the river.
The search was called off overnight because of visibilty challenges and high tides. But crews were back out again at 5:18 a.m, and discovered the boy's body in the water about two hours later — a quarter mile from where he was last seen, Murphy said.
