King County Metro Transit fares would go up by 25 cents starting Oct. 1, under a proposal released today by County Executive Ron Sims.
Bus passes would reflect a similar increase.
The fare increases, which require approval by the Metropolitan King County Council, are being endorsed by County Councilmember Dow Constantine, D-West Seattle, who heads the transportion committee.
The fare increase, Sims said, is needed to cover higher fuel costs. Both Sims and Constantine say they refuse to cut service or curtail new bus-rapid-transit routes planned in the 2010s for Overlake, Federal Way, West Seattle, Ballard and Aurora Avenue.
