Man shot after bank robbery carried pellet gun

A man police shot and wounded after a Seattle bank robbery and cross-town car chase was armed with a pellet gun that resembled a real handgun.

SEATTLE —

A man police shot and wounded after a Seattle bank robbery and cross-town car chase was armed with a pellet gun that resembled a real handgun.

Assistant Police Chief Nick Metz says officers fired about 15 shots after the man ignored multiple orders to drop the weapon and get out of his Jeep Grand Cherokee after police surrounded it Tuesday in downtown Seattle.

Douglas Cox of Burien was hit multiple times and was listed in serious condition Wednesday at Harborview Medical Center.

Metz says officers had no way to tell if the gun was real and feared for the safety of bystanders.

Cox has been convicted twice of armed bank robbery.

A second man arrested in the case has been ordered held on $2 million bail.

FBI spokeswoman Robbie Burroughs says a Wells Fargo bank branch in West Seattle was robbed Tuesday by a man in a wig and a black dress who fled to a waiting car with money. No one in the bank was hurt.
