Water plan released for Lake Coeur d'Alene

After years of negotiations, a plan to preserve the water quality in Lake Coeur d'Alene has been released.

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho —

After years of negotiations, a plan to preserve the water quality in Lake Coeur d'Alene has been released.

The plan was negotiated between the Coeur d'Alene Indian Tribe and the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality with the help of the Environmental Protection Agency.

The goal of the plan announced Tuesday in Coeur d'Alene is to keep a century worth of heavy-metal mining pollution at the bottom of the scenic lake.

Preserving water quality will require monitoring and control of mining pollution, pesticide runoff and septic tanks.
