The public is invited to step aboard what's been called the most accurate replica of a Christopher Columbus ship ever built. The Niña will be on display at the Center for Wooden Boats at the south end of Lake Union. The 93-foot Niña was built by hand in Brazil for the nonprofit Columbus Foundation, based in the British Virgin Islands. It was completed in 1991 in preparation for the 500th anniversary of Columbus' 1492 voyage to America. The original Niña, one of three ships on Columbus' discovery voyage, logged at least 25,000 miles under his command and was last known to be making a trading trip to the north coast of South America in 1501. The replica is open for self-guided tours from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today through Monday; Center for Wooden Boats, 1010 Valley St., Seattle; adults $5, senior citizens $4, students $3; 787-421-0402 or www.thenina.com.
