Beluga whale gives birth to calf at Vancouver Aquarium
Vancouver, B.C.'s aquarium is home to a newborn baby beluga.
Twelve-year-old Qila, the first beluga whale to be conceived and born in a Canadian aquarium, gave birth to her calf Tuesday afternoon.
Aquarium staff say the newborn beluga is about five feet long.
They're keeping a round-the-clock eye on mom and the calf to watch for bonding and nursing behavior.
Two other belugas, including the calf's father, were moved to another pool to give Qila more room during the birth.
Qila and the new calf can be seen via live webcam on the aquarium's Web site.
