A "clueless" 18-year-old who sold marijuana to undercover police officers while he was parked between two marked patrol cars was among 143 mostly underage people arrested or cited last weekend during the annual "party-patrol" enforcement, according to the King County Sheriff's Office.
The Sheriff's Office said 124 of the arrests or citations were issued to minors for possession of alcohol. The 10-year-old multijurisdictional effort is coordinated by the Sheriff's Office and aimed at preventing teenagers from drinking at parties and then driving.
The emphasis will be ongoing through June, when parties celebrating graduation and the end of the school year ramp up, sheriff's spokesman Sgt. John Urquhart said Monday.
According to Urquhart, juveniles were not the only ones misbehaving.
Police threatened to arrest the mother of one teen who kept saying her "husband is an attorney" when she tried to prevent police from entering the home of an Eastlake High School student who was hosting a party at his Sammamish home while his parents were away.
The woman's son was cited for being a minor in possession of alcohol and released to her custody, police said.
At the same party deputies found a juvenile male passed out with his eyes open, unresponsive and sweating profusely. He was treated at the scene and released to his mother after telling deputies he drank nearly a fifth of liquor.
At another party in the 4700 block of Ames Lake-Carnation Road, deputies and officers found a couple, ages 33 and 43, who were throwing a party for underage youths, according to the Sheriff's Office. An undercover detective bought marijuana from an 18-year-old at the party who was parked between two cruisers, Urquhart said.
The couple who own the home were arrested on felony drug charges after Ecstasy was found in the home, he said.
